Smoke is Seen Rising...

Smoke is seen rising from the Israeli occupied Golan Heights, which is near the ceasefire line between Israel and Syria.  As the Syrian civil war draws closer and closer to the Israeli borders, Israel remains “neutral,” but says she will respond if their security is breached.

Yesterday, Israeli troops stationed in the Golan Heights watched the Syrian government troops and rebels fight for control of the only crossing on the Syrian side of the cease-fire line that separates Syria and Israel. This is the closest the fighting has gotten to the Jewish state so far. Farmers were ordered to stay out of their fields; many tourists were turned away; and roads were closed.

In the past month, rockets and gunfire from this war have hit the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on several occasions. Israel has retaliated to show them this will not be tolerated. Israeli planes struck at weaponry in Syria that is felt to have been transferred to Lebanon’s Hezbollah group. There seems to be a fine line with defending the Israeli borders and retaliation from any of Israel’s enemies (Hezbollah, Iran, Russia, Syria, Lebanon, etc).

Song For Israel is partnering with the Museum For Biblical and Sacred Studies, leaving next week for a tour in Israel. One of our intended stops is the Golan Heights. We may not be able to visit this area. Please pray for wisdom for our leaders and safety as we travel.
